|
22nd March-Sat-9:30pm
23rd March-Sun-6:00pm |
As a run up to the awards, we are planning 6 episodes that will roll out from March onwards. The first 4 episodes will be shot in India while the last two in a foreign location.
We have identified 8 companies that we will profile in the first four episodes that will broadly cover Manufacturing, Service, Auto Components, Textile etc. But essentially we will pick companies that have grown and sustained against all odds, who have an interesting story and we will choose the sectors as diverse as possible. The companies all have a thriving export base and supply to major global brands accross the world.
We will shoot each of the episodes as on location in a documentary style of story telling and thus aptly capture their social and cultural milieu as well.
Just taking the example of Sabare International, that is one company that we are going to profile
Sabare International was founded by Mr. Susindran (current Chairman and CEO) in 1991 with a capital investment of just 10 lakh rupees.Initially the company started operations from a small textile center at Karur in Tamilnadu producing home textile. It's first year turnover was Rs 30 lakhs. Since the very beginning, Sabare International has been a 100% export oriented business. But for a long time the company depended heavily on just supplying to small importers from Australia and Europe. With little capital in hand, the company could not spend on international travel to attend overseas fairs.Hence they were limited to selling their products to small buyers who visited India and agents based in the country.
In 1993 for the first time the company exported directly to an Australian importer. But the big break was yet to happen. After a wait of 10 years, their first breakthrough came about when they struck a deal with Wal-mart stores. In 2002, Sabare International's export revenue touched Rs100 crore. But supplying to a global brand meant bigger investment to set up the required infrastructure. The company borrowed funds to the tune of 40 crore rupees and also invited private equity players to invest in their venture.
Today Sabare International has three manufacturing units in the country.Karur apart, they also operate from Panipat and Noida.Internationally the company has units based in Atlanta and Pheonix by the name Sabare USA INC.This subsidiary exclusively looks after supplies to Fortune 500 retailers like Walmart. JCPenny and Target. The company also has a manufacturing unit in Shanghai. They employ about 1800 people, more than 50% of who are from rural India.Although Sabare International still produces home textile, their basket of products now also include dining, bedding and floor covering. Annual company turnover has also multiplied.
